US President Joe Biden’s approval ratings have plunged this week to near the lowest levels of his presidency, with only five weeks to go until the November 8 congressional elections, according to an opinion poll completed by Ipsos on Tuesday.
The two-day poll found that 40 percent of Americans agree with Biden’s job performance, down from 41 percent the previous week.
The president’s declining popularity, which fell to 36 percent in May and June, has fueled expectations that his Democratic Party will lose control of the House of Representatives in November, and possibly the Senate as well.
After taking office in January 2021 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Biden’s state has suffered from the economic effects of the global health crisis, including high levels of inflation.
The survey, conducted online by Ipsos in English in the United States, polled 1,003 adults, including 448 Democrats and 383 Republicans.
