Police|In Helsinki, the police cleared Kaivopuisto of celebrating young people on two nights. In Central Finland and Pirkanmaa, the police were busy the night before Sunday with several violent missions and moped attacks.
For the season the unusually warm weather has kept the police busy over the weekend.
Inspector Tomi Rajamäki The Helsinki Police Department says that the police cleared Kaivopuisto of the partying young people who had gathered there on two nights.
“Kaivopuisto was emptied on Thursday and Friday. When there are a lot of people there and people get drunk, there are abuses, shooting fireworks at others and so on, then it’s easier to clear the place or else there would be a patrol all the time clearing up some kind of dispute,” says Rajamäki.
According to Rajamäki, for example, there were approximately 500–600 people in Kaivopuisto on Friday evening at nine o’clock in the evening. Rajamäki estimates that at most there have been more than a thousand people, most of them young people. By half past two, the police had cleared Kaivopuisto.
According to Rajamäki, a few assaults took place during the evening in Kaivopuisto.
“Those present assess the situation and then when them [pahoinpitelyitä] there will be more, then we’ll see like a referee that it’s better to blow the whistle and clear the park,” says Rajamäki.
Rajamäki estimates that the warm evenings have attracted people to stay in the city longer than usual. However, according to Rajamäki, the night before Sunday was reasonably calm in Helsinki.
Elsewhere In Finland, the night before Sunday, on the other hand, has been quite lively from the police’s point of view.
Inspector Jari Lindholm The police department of Sišä-Suomen says that the police have had a “significant amount” of tasks throughout the night in both Pirkanmaa and Central Finland.
“The exceptionally warm weather at this time of the year has made people stay in city centers late at night and all night long. When you look at the camera, that’s where the last ones know how to do this walk of shame towards home”, Lindholm said after six on Sunday morning.
During the night, according to Lindholm, the police have handled several violent tasks in Tampere and Keuruu, for example. No murders have occurred during the night.
“Several reports have stated that sharp weapons have been involved and that there have been several participants in the fights,” says Lindholm.
In both provinces, various moped meets and drifting events have been organized in several locations, in which several hundred vehicles have participated.
“There has been a rush,” says Lindholm.
