PlayStation Stars launched this week in North America. A loyalty system that rewards players with points to spend in the PS Store and digital collectibles. One of the ways you can earn points is by purchasing games through the PS Store, but you need to spend a lot before getting a full-priced game in return.
Since PlayStation has been pretty vague about the number of points to be won for certain actions, subscribers have made do. As reported by TweakTownStars subscribers will receive 10 PlayStation Stars points for 1 dollar spent in the PS Store.
On the surface this seems like a fair enough “compromise”. However, a little deeper dive into the Stars system revealed how many of these points are needed to get a free game. Players currently have five options available, the most expensive of which is The Quarry, priced at $ 70. If you want to get the game by paying only with the points earned with Stars, you need to spend $ 1,750.
Gamers have discovered you get 10 PlayStation Stars points for every $ 1 you spend on games 🤔
You have to spend $ 1,750 to unlock a single $ 69.99 game, equal to buying 24 full-priced games 🤑 # PS5 # PS4 https://t.co/6HlHH6EJiz pic.twitter.com/6hUq8yEBdP

In these terms, buying 24 and getting one for free doesn’t seem like the best deal in the world. However, that’s not all bad. Since purchasing isn’t the only way to unlock points, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a free game. Stars subscribers can also earn points by completing campaigns. Right now you will get 50 by playing NBA 2K23.
It is worth noting that not all games that can be purchased using Stars Points are as expensive as The Quarry. Cult of the Lamb is also in the top five at just 6,250 points. Titles are also likely to be rotated or added in the future. It is also unclear whether reaching a higher level earns more points. In that case, all the more reason to reach the Secret Diamond level.
