Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia commented on the possibility of recognizing same-sex marriages in the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). His statement is published RIA News with reference to an interview with “Russia 1”.
Patriarch Kirill noted that the church considers it a sin to cohabit people of the same sex and never recognizes such ties as marriage. He called the aspiration of LGBT representatives to legitimize relations “a newfangled idea” that has nothing to do with the policy of the Russian Orthodox Church.
At the same time, the patriarch noted that in a sense, the church in the West can be called vulnerable.
Earlier, the religious scholar Yekaterina Elbakyan told Moslente how the Russian Orthodox Church relates to Halloween. According to her, the church considers this day to be satanic. For this reason, she forbids celebrating it.
