Within the Stellantis group, Opel boasts a great record: that of being the only German brand. A status that gives the Russelsheim-based company a great responsibility: Uwe Hochgeschurtz, the CEO of Opel, assured this, who spoke clearly of “special priority“. In recent weeks, the unions have expressed all their concern about Opel’s future in Germany, which is why the number one of the German car manufacturer wanted reassure all: “We are the only German brand, and thanks to this I believe we will find the path to success”.
At the moment, the situation at home for Opel is quite tumultuous, in particular at the Eisenach plant, which will remain closed at least until the end of the year due to the shortage of microchips. Many workers point the finger at Stellantis: according to their accusation, the company born from the merger between the FCA and PSA groups would like to take advantage of Germany’s licensing plan to move production outside the German borders. Opel’s CEO will also meet with the CEO of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, and with the heads of the German states in which the company has production plants, on this “problem” as well. Regarding the resumption of post-crisis microchip production, Hochgeschurtz explained that with the microchips already available, Opel will give priority to electric vehicles, while not specifying when the impact of this shortage will stop hitting German society.
