The corona numbers increase in Germany at the beginning of July. There are some deaths related to the virus. In infections, the omicron variant BA.5 dominates.
Munich/Berlin – Bavaria has just relaxed the corona rules for public transport in buses and trains. If you look around the subways in Munich, for example, many people are no longer wearing FFP2 masks. The corona virus is still omnipresent. This is proven by the numbers and statistics from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin for this Friday (July 1st) – and they have it all.
Corona in Germany: Omicron variant BA.5 is dominant
As the RKI explained in its weekly situation report, “the nationwide 7-day incidence in calendar week (KW) 25 increased by almost 155,000 cases (+ 38%) compared to the previous week”. This increase affects all age groups, in particular among older people as well as children and young people “significant increases have been recorded”.
The omicron variant BA.5, which now accounts for 66 percent of infections, has become the dominant variant in Germany.

In figures: According to the RKI dashboard, 113,099 newly registered corona cases were added in the Federal Republic this Friday, the nationwide 7-day incidence was 682.7. Even more: According to this, 84 deaths related to the virus were registered within one day. As the dashboard also shows, the infection rate has been particularly high in north-west Germany in the past few days, in the regions south of Bremen and Hamburg and around Hanover.
Corona in Germany: high number of infections and several deaths in early July
According to the RKI, the consequences of the corona infections are also clearly expressed. The federal authority currently reports “approximately 4.5 million acute respiratory diseases in the population in Germany. In the outpatient area, significantly more doctor visits for respiratory diseases were registered nationwide in the 25th week than in the previous week”. The rate of acute respiratory diseases has not only been “above the values of the pre-pandemic years” since this week, is further described in the management report.

Karl Lauterbach (SPD) remains a resolute admonisher in this situation. The Federal Minister of Health announced this Friday that he would stick to the Corona citizen tests despite criticism from the panel doctors.
“The tests will remain and will be billed correctly from today,” tweeted the Lauterbach department head. His ministry is “in constructive talks about billing for citizen tests” with the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV). The tests are “not pointless, but help that infected people do not infect others”. (pm)
