Since Pocketpair launched Palworld in early 2024The Pokémon Company stated that it would take action if it found that the aforementioned video game was violating copyright laws.
We are already in the middle of September and there is already a formal demand between Nintendo and The Pokémon Company against Pocketpair, the developer behind Palworld.
The lawsuit was filed in the Tokyo District Court on September 18, 2024.
The lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and damages on the grounds that Palworld infringes multiple patent rights.
It is worth noting that it is not known exactly what kind of patents Palworld infringed. The only thing that is certain is that Nintendo was very adamant about taking the necessary legal action to protect its intellectual properties that have been established for years.
Remember that the issue of lawsuits will always be complicated. Lawsuits between lawyers never end well and this may end in favor of anyone… Or Nintendo, because it has a winning team of lawyers.

The similarities between the pals of Palworld and the Pokémon
Since Palworld has existed, it’s been clear that its characters were clearly inspired by Pokémon creatures. Sometimes the designs were too obvious, while other times they were just similar.
It was also discussed that many of the designs in the video game developed by Pocketpair were made with Artificial Intelligence, resulting in characters that were very similar to those of Pokémon.
We just have to wait and see how this lawsuit ends, as it will have to be decided in Japan, and the way laws operate in the Land of the Rising Sun are very different from those we see on this side of the pond.
