According to the Norwegian police, the arrested Russians had in their possession a considerable number of pictures of prohibited objects.

Norway has taken precautions because it suspects that its critical infrastructure may be subject to sabotage. For example, photography helicopters have been observed near gas and oil rigs in Norway.
Last week, Norwegian police said they had arrested two Russians for flying photography helicopters and taking pictures in prohibited areas.

Bridge times, the police say in a press release that last Thursday they stopped a car with Russian license plates. There were three men and one woman in the car, whom the police caught and arrested. Those arrested are under 30 years old.
The Russians had taken pictures of banned sites in the northern part of Norway, but the police did not say which sites in more detail. They had arrived in Norway via Finland in late September or early October.
Police representative Gaute Rydmark said on Norwegian television that those arrested were in possession of a significant number of images but no photo-copters. During interrogations, they have denied that they acted against the law and said that they are tourists.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, Norway has become Western Europe’s most important supplier of gas. The country has tightened security measures around gas drilling rigs and prepared for sabotage attempts, especially after the Nord Stream gas pipeline leaks. Leaks are suspected to have been intentionally caused by Russia.
