Nissan revealed a prototype that largely takes inspiration from the world of Formula E, that is the championship with electric single-seaters whose growth in recent years has been remarkable. Is called Ariya Single Seater Concept, and is a high-performance design based on the all-electric powertrain mounted on the Nissan Ariya road suv. The Japanese house wanted to ‘test’ the technological capabilities of its electric unit in a completely different design context.
The concept was unveiled at the Nissan Futures event by Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s senior vice president of global design. Albaisa declared: “As we started shaping our long-term vision, Nissan Ambition 2030, we continued to build on our design language. Timeless Japanese Futurism. We are now drawing inspiration from the Japanese words shun, which means to run fast and effortlessly, and sho, which means to soar with power and grace. This car is the perfect expression of this new language. Harnessing Ariya’s EV powertrain in a motorsports-inspired format allowed our international team to capture this new sense of speed, technology and artistry.“.
At the front of the vehicle is the electrified and illuminated “V” movement, typical of Nissan’s current road car design language. In the side view, inspiration was taken from Ariya’s fluid and efficient surfaces, with extensive use of carbon fiber. In general, the prototype is an extreme extension of the lines of a Formula E car, with various aerodynamic elements which, however, are also inspired by the world of road cars. This mix is certainly an excellent exercise in style to demonstrate that between racing and everyday cars there can be mutual collaboration. Even if seeing such a car on the road is still a dream.
