The fate of the Nissan plant in Barcelona is now marked. The Spanish authorities have in fact decided to select the local automotive group QEV Technologies as the main candidate to take over the ownership of the plant, a choice facilitated by the decision of the Chinese manufacturer Great Wall to withdraw its candidacy. The Catalan group QEV therefore seems to be the one most likely to replace Nissan: the project presented is to transform the site into a hub for electric vehicles, which includes the participation of the Swedish producers Inzile and Volta.
As Reuters recalls, Nissan left the factory for good at the end of 2021. Great Walla seemed to be the number one favorite to take over from the Japanese brand, but at the very last moment it decided to withdraw your application thus serving on a silver platter the opportunity that the Catalan group QEV did not miss. A commission made up of Spanish and Catalan politicians, union representatives and Nissan executives thought of all the various nominations.Meeting attendees supported the broad lines for the QEV Technologies’ electro-mobility hub plan – explains a Nissan note reported by Reuters – The hub fulfills all set goals. An alternative proposal from the Belgian car manufacturer Punch will be considered as a secondary option“. Further talks are planned with the EQF group to fix the final details on space and resources.
