Although the pandemic has not affected Nintendo to the degree of PlayStation and other companies, the effects of this event have had a negative impact on the Big N. During its most recent financial report, it has been revealed that the sales expectations of the switch for the fiscal year have been reduced once again.
In its previous report, Nintendo noted that sales expectations had been lowered to 24 million consoles by March 31, 2022. Now, in its latest report, the company has noted that this number has decreased to 23 million by the end of the fiscal year. This was what was said about it:
“For Nintendo Switch, we will continue to offer all three attractive models and work to further expand the already installed base. On the software side, Pokémon Legends: Arceus launched in January, and we plan to follow up with the release of Kirby and the Forgotten Land in March. There are also a wide variety of compelling titles from other software publishers scheduled for release, and we will work to strengthen sales through the combination of existing popular titles and a continuous stream of compelling new titles.
With respect to business risk, the prolonged impact of both COVID-19 and the global semiconductor shortage creates a state of continuing uncertainty, with the possibility of future impact on production and shipment. While these and other unforeseen risks exist, we continue to take all necessary steps to conduct business.”
While 23 million units is still an impressive number given the current situation, the distribution complications caused by COVID-19, as well as the shortage of semiconductors, have had a relative impact for the Japanese company.
On related topics, the Switch has surpassed 103 million units. Similarly, Nintendo ensures that this console is barely halfway through its life cycle.
Editor’s note:
Thanks to the fact that the production of the Switch is not as heavy as that of the PS5, Nintendo still has a series of positive projections for its future. However, if the global situation continues as it is, expectations are likely to decline further quarter on quarter.
