Las Vegas Raiders sack Damon Arnette after disturbing video
Los Angeles The Las Vegas Raiders can’t get out of the negative headlines. The NFL club sacked cornerback Damon Arnette Monday after he showed himself in a video on a social media platform with a gun and threatened to kill someone.
Raiders CEO Mike Mayock said that Arnette’s position at the club has become untenable. “We have invested a lot of time, effort and resources to help him in all areas of his life,” said Mayock. “The content of the video was unacceptable and contradicts our values. The Raiders will not tolerate this type of behavior.”
Mayock said the club’s leadership had “serious concerns” about Arnette’s character after his college career. Still, the club considered the draft to be an “acceptable risk” after reviewing the player himself. “Obviously we failed and that is 100 percent my responsibility,” Mayock said.
Just the previous week, Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III was involved in a fatal car accident under the influence of alcohol at significantly excessive speed, the 22-year-old could face up to 20 years in prison. In mid-October, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden resigned under great public pressure after the 58-year-old’s emails with misogynistic and gay-hostile content surfaced.
