In Verdello, the two boyfriends celebrate winning the title on the same day. Tokyo’s silver wins in the play-off with Poerio Piterà, bronze for Mandia
Concluded the 59th Italian Outdoor Championship at the “Rino Gritti” Municipal Stadium in Verdello, in the province of Bergamo, with the assignment of the absolute Italian titles of the Olympic division. The day closes the blues’ outdoor competitive season and has given endless surprises and emotions, like the gold that the Italian Air Force blues Mauro Nespoli and Vanessa Landi bring home, who are also a couple in life, as much as the silverware from applause obtained by the very young blue player Francesco Poerio Piterà and the Paralympic champion Elisabetta Mijno.
GOLD AT THE SHOT FOR NESPOLI
–
Verdello’s was the third absolute tricolor for the Olympian Mauro Nespoli who, not satisfied after the individual silver at the Tokyo 2020 Games, overtook Francesco Poerio Piterà in the final in the play-off, who made his debut with the national team youth this summer, winning the Youth Cup in Bucharest and then participating in his first Youth World Cup in Poland. For the Calabrian athlete from Taverna (Cz), born in 2005, this is of course a historic result, also for how he came to play for the title. The archer in the Arcieri Club Lido on Friday had won the Allievi class title, shooting at a distance of 60 meters. A result that allowed him to compete with juniors, seniors and masters on Saturday, reaching at the end of the 72 ranking round arrows at the Olympic distance of 70 meters the 6th overall score with 655 points. Today he managed to do even better, eliminating one after another his opponents, all more experienced than him: in the round of 16 Luca Melotto 6-4, in the quarterfinals Yuri Belli 6-2 and in the semifinal Massimiliano Mandia 6-2. Mauro Nespoli had instead obtained the 4th score in qualifying (658), beating Matteo Bilisari 6-2 in the first round, Marco Morello 7-3 in the quarterfinals and Federico Musolesi 6-2 in the semifinal. Then came the key match and this time the blue champion was unable to manage the advantage as he would have liked: he had in fact gone 4-0 by winning the first two sets 27-26 and 26-24, but was unable to close. the challenge at 6-0 in the third set despite having the possibility. The volley ends 26-26, which is worth 5-1 and in the following two fractions of the game the young Calabrian places a 30-28 and a 26-24 which are worth 5-5 and the play-off. The shoot off ends with an infinite suspense, considering that the 9 hit by both athletes was measured with the compass to understand those of the two arrows were closer to the center. In the end, for a couple of millimeters, it was the arrow of Voghera’s aviator that brought him the third title after those won in 2013 and 2017.
NESPOLI: FINALLY A LITTLE REST
–
“I’m not satisfied with how I shot – Nespoli said hotly – I could have ended the game after the 4-0 and instead I gave Francesco the opportunity to join me. I must say that I was really exhausted. The Olympic Games took away a lot of energy from me. mental and this was not only seen here, but also at the World Championships and in the World Cup final, where I expected better performances. It was a great season anyway, crowned with an individual silver medal at the Olympics. Now I deserve 15 days off without arc, but we are already preparing the work for the immediate future, because Paris 2024 is around the corner and the qualifying world championships are close. We must be able to improve our level and get the qualification of the men’s team that we missed her in Tokyo. In short, it is good to focus our attention immediately on the next season “.
BRONZE FOR MAX MANDIA
–
To conclude the men’s podium the bronze won in the play-off by the standard bearer of the Blue Flames Massimiliano Mandia, who overtook the Air Force athlete Federico Musolesi 6-5 (9 * -9). The decisive arrow of the Salerno archer, closer to the center, was worth the victory against the young Bolognese archer at the end of a very balanced match that ended with these partial: 26-26, 28-26, 26-28, 27 -27, 28-28.
LANDI TERZO ORO, MIJNO COMPANY
–
The victory of Vanessa Landi, the third in her career after the double obtained in 2015 and 2016 when she was still a junior, relaunches the Grosseto archer who lives and trains in Voghera with Mauro Nespoli, also followed by the historical trainer of the Italian Olympian Roberto Finardi. For her it is an injection of confidence in view of the path that leads to Paris 2024, an appointment that she does not want to miss: “I am very happy because I have come from a difficult period for not having yet managed to earn the Olympic chance”. The victory of the Air Force athlete arrived in the final with a 6-4 over the Paralympic champion Elisabetta Mijno, the standard bearer of the Blue Flames who won the mixed team silver with Stefano Travisani in Tokyo 2020. For both an excellent path for reach the match valid for the title. The athlete from Grosseto beat Selene Lagazzoli 7-1, Chiara Rebagliati 6-2 and in the semifinal Roberta Di Francesco 6-5 after the play-off (9-8). Elisabetta Mijno won 6-4 over her partner of the national team para-archery Enza Petrilli, winner of the individual silver in Tokyo, and then also beat Claudia Mandia 7-1 and Sara Noceti 6-0. Despite having lost the final challenge, the Piedmontese champion never ceases to amaze: after 4 participations in the Paralympics, seasoned with an individual silver in London, a bronze and a mixed team silver in Rio and Tokyo, she touched the absolute tricolor in the recurvo, an undertaking that in the 60-year history of Fitarco only managed to accomplish the great Paola Fantato in 1994, two years before participating in the Atlanta ’96 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
HISTORIC BRONZE FOR DI FRANCESCO
–
The bronze medal was earned by the young Pescara athlete Roberta Di Francesco (Arcieri Abruzzesi) who won 6-4 over the Ligurian Sara Noceti (Arcieri Tigullio). Also in this case a challenge with fantastic outlines: Di Francesco is in fact still a junior and wore the national team jersey for the first time this summer exactly like Francesco Poerio Piterà. A historic medal for her and for her fellow countrymen, given that in the Olympic arc no Abruzzo archer had ever obtained an individual podium in the absolute.
