The biggest artists may organize song camps that last for days or weeks, where the authors retreat to spend time together and perform songs in different groups.
Kaisa Korhonen usually writes songs as a group, for example with a producer and an artist. Sessions are most often held in a studio, where Korhonen tends to relax on the couch.
Although Korhonen writes songs for others to present and often also for the ideas of others, he believes that the authors have to believe in what the song claims. At least if you want the song to touch your listeners.

The idea for a song can come from the artist himself or from other authors. For example Domestic The idea was invented by Antti Tuisku himself. He wanted to make a song that would tell how the feeling of home is built on people close to you, not on matter.
He shared his idea with Korhonen, Lindroth and Jurek in an apartment rented in Torrevieja, Spain, in November for a two-week songwriting camp. Tuisku himself lives in Spain part of the time.
“It’s wonderful to make songs about serious and big topics, because then the discussions are also significant. The moments are such that you realize things in them yourself, ”says Korhonen.
All participants began posting their lyrics to a shared Google Docs. Jurek met the chords on the synthesizer, Lindroth played the guitar. Korhonen spun the a-part in the same apartment while doing the dishes. The raw version was made during one evening.
A total of seven songs were composed during the camp.
The first Kaisa Korhonen got the song she wrote for another artist about ten years ago. At that time, the 24-year-old Korhonen studied at the University of Helsinki as a teacher and made songs as he had done since childhood.

Korhonen was not allowed to sell other songs, although he wrote more of them all the time.

The music publisher is responsible for the rights to the songs and sells the songs to artists and record companies. The music publisher began arranging sessions for Korhonen with larger artists and more experienced producers. Korhonen received all possible sessions and arranged them himself. During the day he worked in primary school as a teacher and after work drove to the studio.

Despite the large workload, Korhonen received only a few hundred euros in Teosto compensation in the same year. They, too, were mostly from songs that had been written and published years earlier. The amount would have been just enough for one month’s rent.
Now Korhonen tries to take it easy. There is already so much confidence and experience that he dares to go to the sessions, even if there are no new ideas in mind. He no longer lists goals.
