Multiple hit in Berlin has left one dead and several injured

At least one person has died and several were injured after a vehicle ran over several pedestrians on a shopping street in west Berlin.according to local media reports citing firefighters in the German capital.

The event occurred near Kurfürstendamm avenue and according to the first information from the local radio station ‘RBB’, the vehicle, which has not yet been confirmed if it was a car or a truck, ran over a group of people on the sidewalk for reasons still unknown.

According to the source, a dozen people were injured, several of them seriously.

Police sources reported, through their Twitter account, that The driver of the vehicle was detained while trying to clarify whether it was due to an accident or a deliberate act.

The event has occurred in a busy commercial area in that part of Berlin and, according to the first information, the car got on the road and ran into a store.

The rescue and fire teams have already moved to the scene with some 60 troops to attend to those affected.

According to the local newspaper ‘Bild’, the vehicle is from the tourism range of the Renault brand in metallic gray and its driver was a man. The area where the car crashed is close to the Breitscheidplatz, the central square where in December 2016 the Tunisian jihadist Anis Amri deliberately crashed a stolen truck into a popular Christmas market and killed 13 people of various nationalities.
