The second and last day of testing took place in Sepang the main protagonist was the bad weather, which heavily influenced the entire course of the session. During the tests, in fact, different showers they influenced the initial programs set by teams and riders, with the latter still taking the opportunity to test their respective bikes even in adverse conditions. Among these, there were also the two standard bearers of Monster Energy Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli, who took to the track in Malaysia even in the wet. While reigning world champion he closed at 7th placethanks to a dry ride, Morbidelli he had to deal more with the interruption of the tests, which did not allow him to go beyond the 24th place. However, the 27-year-old from Rome also made significant improvements compared to Day 1, resulting in a lap faster than 7/10 compared to yesterday’s best personal.
The two drivers, despite the difficulties of bad weather, therefore expressed their satisfaction with the positive results that emerged from the M1, starting with the Frenchman’s comments: “I am very happy with my pace – has explained Quartararo – unfortunately I kept two tires to do a time attack, and then it rained, but I still did a great lap. I am quite satisfied because I was coming from a very old rear tire, and the gap between the two was too big. I couldn’t take advantage of the new rear tire, but i am super happy. I think we have a bit of a margin on the flying lap, and I think it was a good test. We can be happy. In Mandalika we will test again what we have tried in this test, and we will see if there are positive results ”.
Feelings also expressed by Morbidelli which, to the detriment of the position in the standings, however, showed various progresses between the two days of testing: “We have made good steps today too – has explained – we wanted to improve with new tires, and we succeeded. We wanted to improve our pace, and we did. Unfortunately we could not do the time attack, because our program was scheduled for late afternoon, but with the rain it was not possible to do it. The feeling is getting better and better, and the bike progressively improves. We are setting it up to be fast and consistent. There is this doubt about the time attack that I wanted to get rid of, and unfortunately we will have to wait until Indonesia for that, but so far everything is fine. I’m happy enough “. MotoGP is now taking a short break, before returning to the track again for the second test session in Mandalika, scheduled from 11 to 13 February.
