For the third consecutive Grand Prix Pecco Bagnaia and Jack Miller they will start next to each other from the front row at the Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, this weekend’s venue for the Valencian Community Grand Prix and the last appointment of the 2021 season.
Fast already at the end of free practice closed with the fourth time, Bagnaia managed to win in qualifying the start from the front row for the twelfth consecutive time. Thanks to a fast lap of 1: 30,000, the Piedmontese Ducati rider secured second place on the grid, despite a crash during his latest time attack attempt while he was improving.
Miller also had a similar fate: during his last lap in qualifying he crashed shortly after Bagnaia. This did not prevent him from securing the start from the front row for the eighth time this year and to close Q2 with the third fastest time in 1: 30.325, 325 thousandths behind his teammate.
For the second time this year and in the history of Ducati in MotoGP, the front row of tomorrow’s race will be entirely signed by the Borgo Panigale manufacturer. In fact, it will be Jorge Martin, Pramac driver, starting from pole position next to the drivers of the official team, and with Johann Zarco in fifth position there will also be four Desmosedici in the first two rows of the grid in the Grand Prix.
“I’m happy with the result in qualifying – commented Bagnaia – Unfortunately on the last lap I was pushing too hard and I crashed. Despite this we start from the first row, in second position and it is a good result. Valencia is not one of the tracks that best suits my driving style and this is the first year that I can be competitive here. Throughout the weekend I struggled to be perfect in a single lap, but the pace for the race is good. We worked well all weekend and we already know which tires we will use in the race, so I’m optimistic and ready to face the last Grand Prix of the season ”.
“This was our last qualifying of the year, so I tried to really give it my all and once again I got close to pole – stated, instead, Miller – During the last lap I crashed at turn 9 because I was probably pushing a little too much, but in any case I enjoyed it: the excellent sensations I have with my Desmosedici and today’s ideal weather conditions allowed me to take full advantage of the potential of my bike. I feel I have a good pace to face tomorrow’s race and now we just have to figure out which tire choice to make to face it. It would be nice to be able to close the season with a third victory ”.
