The hunt for the 2022 world titles couldn’t have started worse for Ducati. The Borgo Panigale house, given by many before the weekend as the big favorite for the victory on the Lusail track, in Qatar, instead collected a very heavy triple knockout both for the constructors and teams classification which – above all – for that pilots, the real goal of the season for the Italian team. The black day began at the start, with Jorge Martin – on pole yesterday – who got off to a bad start, risking a crash and losing many positions in a few meters. Adding salt to his injuries was the retirement of Jack Miller, fourth yesterday in qualifying but slipped back in the race due to electronics problems.
The Australian returned to the pits dark-faced, explicitly expressing all his anger at the technical inconvenience that deprived him of a possible battle for the top positions. The real blow to the heart for all the fans of the red, however, came about ten laps to go. Pecco Bagnaia, who slipped out of the starting points area and engaged in a difficult comeback, in fact knocked down his home mate Jorge Martin in turn 1, in an attempt to overtake that was too reckless. The Italian and the Spaniard of the Pramac team ended up on the ground together, fortunately without consequences. The native of Chivasso immediately went to verify Martin’s condition, apologizing for the mistake.
To keep the Ducati honor high, however, an amazing Enea Bastianini is thinking about it, currently fighting for the victory of the race on his Desmosedici of the Gresini team. For the ‘Bestia’ the challenge seems to be above all with the Honda of Pol Espargarò, star of the first part of the race.
