As soon as the track opened on Monday morning in Jerez, Maverick Viñales left the pitlane for the first laps, which reached 41 at midday, when he stopped for lunch and took the opportunity to chat with the media before returning to track in the afternoon at the handlebars of the Aprilia RS-GP24.
“I tested little,” he said when asked about the innovations that the Noale company brought with it for these official tests.
“The truth is that above all we wanted the two bikes to be the same, because since Qatar they are no longer the same, the A and the B work a little differently. It is very important that the two bikes are the same, because if you fall and you have to take the other bike and it doesn't go the same way, things get complicated and you're not as competitive,” he explained.
“Today we understood what was wrong with bike B, and there were some parts that weren't at peak performance. It's a shame because I raced that bike this weekend and I blamed it on the front brake, which didn't work for me. it stopped when cornering, and it was due to a component of the bike that wasn't 100%”.
“You have to be careful in these things because they change a championship, you always have to be one hundred percent and in Jerez we weren't, yes on Friday with bike A, like in Austin and Portugal, but when we switched to bike B (he suffered a fall with the first) the level was eclipsed. Today we saw it, we had half a second difference”, he said.

“Just for the fact of having identified this thing, I consider the test a good test, because it gives me peace of mind and gives the technicians space for a different set-up.”
From what has been explained by Mavericks, it can be concluded that it is a problem of wear of the piece due to excessive use. “I think yes, it's a wear problem, I don't know exactly, but it's very likely.”
“We have to be vigilant, very careful. I always say that if we manage to get one hundred percent from this bike we're good, that's the level. The bike is of a high level, but if we don't manage to get one hundred percent… We must be vigilant and always check every single screw.”
A failure reminiscent of that of Portimao, where Maverick's gearbox broke when he was second in the race, after giving him problems from the start.
