It is surprising, but the reality is that the world-famous French chauvinism (disproportionate exaltation of the national) has long had an exception, also of a global nature. His name is Kylian Mbappé, he is considered the best footballer in the world and, far from praising him and bragging about him, in his country there are many who are waiting to attack him any day and for any reason. The penultimate criticism has its origins in the Stade Malherbe Caen, a French Second Division club whose majority of shares (80%) were recently acquired by the Real Madrid forward. It is likely that Mbappé did not even find out what happened, but the truth is that in the neighboring nation the headlines related to this news highlight the fact that Kylian is the owner of said team. It happens that this Saturday the matches of the eighth round of the French Cup. One of them is played by the aforementioned SM Caen and Union Sportive Bolbec, a modest club in the 6th division. The qualifying rounds are a single match, but the US Bolbec field does not meet the conditions required by the Federation to host a cup event that has raised a lot of expectations, mainly because the rival is owned by Mbappé. At first, the leaders of the team from Bolbec – a municipality in Upper Normandy located 100 kilometers north of Caen – thought that the best thing was to talk to the rival and request that the match be held in their own stadium, the Michel d’Ornano, with capacity for 20,000 spectators. They considered that although Caen had officially had to play as a visitor, it was in their favor not to have to travel and to play where they usually do. They were wrong. “They sent us a budget according to which we had to pay them 84,000 euros to have their stadium at our disposal,” reveals Kevin Beaufils, president of Bolbec, in the newspaper ‘Paris-Normandie’. “It is an exorbitant sum for a small club like ours, even more so when we were not even sure of being able to cover our expenses. I consider it regrettable. “Football, normally, is solidarity. In the previous round, we left our share of the income to Maladrerie de Caen (another humble team), knowing that having qualified we would receive a bonus from the Federation. Without a doubt, Caen could have offered us a formula that would satisfy everyone, especially considering that they could have played on their field. Since that was not the case, the US Bolbec managers have had to look for a solution. They have found it in Pavilly, a town 50 kilometers away from theirs, whose modest stadium, the Lucien-Lecuyer, has 1,700 seats.
