More than 100 law enforcement officers are on the scene of a shooting during a US Independence Day parade in a suburb of Chicago. This was announced by the representative of the Chicago police Christopher Covelli at a press conference.
“We are working with the FBI. We have more than 100 law enforcement officers working at the scene of the incident, they are conducting an investigation and inquiry,” he said.
Covelli added that the shooter was well hidden on the roof, it was difficult to see him. The search for the suspect continues.
Police are said to be looking for a white young man aged 18-20 “with long black hair of a slim build in a white or blue T-shirt.”
According to eyewitnesses, he fired 20 to 30 shots 20 minutes after the start of the parade. As a result of the shooting, six people were killed and 24 were injured.
The shooting at the Independence Day parade in Highland Park came to light earlier in the day. As noted by the Fox News channel, according to eyewitnesses, people began to scatter after the sounds of shots.
The mayor’s office recommended that residents and guests of the city take refuge in safe places, as a search is underway for the shooter. Several suburban settlements, which are located nearby, canceled the celebration of Independence Day.
