Montiel plays a few minutes in Argentina’s defeat against Paraguay

The argentine national team played the first match of this break this Tuesday with the aim of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Lionel Scaloni’s team has lost to Paraguay (2-1) in a match that included the presence of the Sevilla player Montiel.

During the beginning of the match, the Argentine team was the one that took the initiative, while the Paraguayans waited in their field. However, the Argentines’ joy did not last long. In the 20th minute Sanabria equalized the match with a Chilean in which the ‘Dibu’ could do nothing. The play of both goals were the most outstanding of this first half.

The second half began in the best possible way for the albirroja. In two minutes after a set piece, Alderete beat the Argentine defense and with a header he managed to send the ball into the back of the net. With the result against the albiceleste, they were not able to generate many dangerous chances. Scaloni introduced some changes to try to reverse this situation. One of them was Montiel, who jumped onto the field in the 78th minute to replace Nahuel Molina. Despite reorganizing the team, they failed to score.

Despite this defeat, Scaloni’s team maintains its lead in the qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The second match of this break will be next Wednesday, November 20 at 1:00 Spanish time against Peru.
