In commemoration of the great Arab poet Abu Al-Qasim Al-Shabi, “the Poet of the Green”, the Mohammed bin Rashid Library organized a “dialogue session and poetry readings”, with the participation of the Tunisian writer and academic researcher, Dr. Leila Al-Obaidi, professor of ancient literature in the Arabic Language Department at the College of Arts at the University of Sharjah, and president of the Language Society. Arabic at the same university.
The session was moderated by the poet Dr. Hassan Al-Najjar, who, with his distinctive recitation of Chebbi’s poems, added elegance and beauty to the session, during which he was accompanied by the players Al-Bashir Al-Daridi on the oud, and Ahmed Al-Ghali on the piano.
Dr. Laila Al-Obaidi began the session by highlighting the biography of Chebbi’s life, who was born in the Tozeur governorate in southern Tunisia, and received his primary education in the Arabic language in the Ktateeb. His exceptional memory enabled him to memorize the Holy Qur’an when he was nine years old, and he had received most of his knowledge and knowledge during his upbringing. In the care of his father, Muhammad bin Abi Al-Qasim Ibrahim Al-Shabbi.
Al-Obaidi pointed out that Al-Shabi’s poems and writings in general reflect his love for life, despite his knowledge of his illness that led to his death at a young age. I also mentioned his most important literary works, such as the collection “Songs of Life,” the book “Poetic Imagination among the Arabs,” the book “Dramatic Pages,” and the book “Letters of the Chebbi.”
She touched on the sublime meanings that Chebbi’s poetry carries, such as his patriotic poems, in which he called for confronting colonialism and sang of freedom. The session also discussed the topic of women in his poetry and life, and the impact of nature and its reflection in his writings.
At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Laila Al-Obaidi answered the inquiries and questions of the attendees, who in turn expressed their gratitude and thanks to the Mohammed bin Rashid Library for organizing such events, through which they commemorate writers, critics, poets and thinkers, who had a great impact on the history of Arabic literature, and left to the library Arabic is a valuable and priceless literary heritage.
