While the directors of the Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Sindication of players agree to sign a new economic deal collaboration, some of the modifications for the next campaign have been revealed.
According to a report by journalist Jesse Rogers, the MLB wants institute a 14-second shot clock with the bases empty and one of 19 seconds with runners on base.
These adjustments were already tested in minor leagues in 2021, reducing the duration of games by up to 20 minutes, using a time of 15 seconds without a man on base, and 17 with people on base, although it was later reduced from 15 to 14 and increased from 17 to 19.

The reason
These new rules are to be imposed because the matches have been increasing in duration, since the previous year there was an average of 3 hours and 10 minutes for each match in the MLB.
According to ESPN, this time is 20 minutes more than a decade ago, when the average duration of a game in the Major Leagues was 2 hours and 50 minutes.

However, all of this is pending a resolution between MLB and the MLBPA, who continue to want to reach a new collaboration agreement, and end the lockout that began on December 2.
