Return to Laguna Seca
A new chapter in IndyCar officially opens for David Malukasthis time more pleasant after a rather troubled start to the season: the 22-year-old Lithuanian was in fact announced as new driver for the Meyer Shank Racing teamwith the debut scheduled for round a Laguna Secascheduled for June 23rd.
Blomqvist’s experience ends
While waiting for his debut with the team from Pataskala (Ohio), Malukas will carry out some tests at the Milwaukee Speedway next week, and then take over from Helio Castroneves (also confirmed this weekend at Road America) at the wheel of the car #66. Furthermore, the Brazilian had been recalled by the team to Detroit to replace Tom Blomqvist, the latter suspended following the accident that occurred during the first lap of the Indianapolis 500. In the press release, the team wanted to thank the Briton for his commitment, demonstrating the conclusion of the relationship with the rider.
The agreement reached with the team provides for Malukas to remain at Laguna Seca until the end of the championship. Thus begins a new adventure after the one that should have begun in Arrow McLaren just this year. In February, a month before the start of the 2024 season, the Lithuanian with US citizenship had to undergo surgery for a wrist fracture recovered after a bicycle fall. However, after missing the first three races due to this injury, the team had decided to release the Chicago-born driver, who has since never found a seat in IndyCar until the recent announcement published by Meyer Shank’s social channels: “I am extremely grateful to Jim Meyer, Mike Shank and the entire Meyer Shank Racing team for the opportunity to conclude the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season – declared Malukas – despite the setbacks suffered at the beginning of the year, I focused diligently on my recovery, putting in place the efforts and dedication necessary to return to top condition. I am ready and excited to get back in the car, with the aim of making the most of this opportunity and delivering strong performances for the team and our supporters. This opportunity means a lot to me and I am determined to repay the trust shown in me with my maximum effort on the track“.
