Mercedes' confidence towards 2024
The new Mercedes it will be presented on Valentine's Day, and in Brackley they hope it will spark a spark towards a car that in its previous versions was called a “diva” by Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton, and in recent years has given only bitter disappointments.
The car concept undertaken at the beginning of the ground effect era was defended until the spring of 2023, and then unceremoniously thrown away during the current season. And now, with the W15, Mercedes has resigned itself to starting a season on a path much closer to that of Red Bull. And never mind if they left late. At least now in Brackley there is a more serene and confident airwell summed up by technical director James Allisonwhich is confident in a substantial improvement in performance.
Allison's words
“We wish that some of the car's more grumpy rear-end behavior was a little smoother, and that the car's handling was more advanced. This is all under simulation, but we have reasonable reasons to believe we have made some progress“, these are the words of the Brit taken from the F1 website.
“In addition to this aspect there are all the normal operations to lighten the car, increase downforce and hope to improve the power unit with the calibration interventions permitted by the current rules“, he concluded. “Whether all this will be sufficient, time will tell, but it will be interesting because we have hypothesized the reasons for some aspects that we knew were problematic and we have resolved them. Let's see how precise we were in the diagnosis“.
