Marvel Rivals has recently started a playtest phase and, as is typical for today’s market, the developers and publishers of the game have granted multiple online content creators a code to be able to try the video game and show it to their followers. As is typical, he was also asked to sign an agreement with a series of rules to follow when talking about it. Nothing too strange up to this point, except that one of the impositions briefly asked for Don’t post bad reviews.
The information was shared via social media, as you can see below. It is also pointed out that many streamers may not have even read the contract and therefore might not even realizing the request from the publishers of Marvel Rivals.
More specifically, the contract states: “Non-Disparagement: The Content Creator agrees not to make public statements or engage in discussions that are harmful to the reputation of the game. This includes, but is not limited to:
to. Make disparaging or satirical comments about any game-related material, such as game features, characters, or music.
b. Making malicious comparisons to competitors or belittling the gameplay or differences of “Marvel Rivals” or providing subjective negative reviews of the game.”
The problem of subjectivity and objectivity
The last point is the most sensitive: “do not provide subjective negative reviews of the game”. The publishers have “protected” themselves by including the term “subjective”, implying that it is possible to report “objective” criticisms of the game, but in fact which are objective criticisms and which are negative is always a little difficult to define.
Apart from extreme cases, criticizing something always has at least partly a subjective component and some content creators – who without access to this type of collaboration lose the possibility of creating content and therefore earning – may have simply avoided speaking their minds sincerely, only reporting the positive components of the game so as not to take risks with the publisher of Marvel Rivals.
Finally, we leave you with our special in which we explain what this team shooter with Marvel superheroes is.
