Less than a month to go before the start of the MotoGP pre-season and the riders are starting to intensify their preparation for the first winter tests of 2022. The Circuit of Almeria, in the Tabernas Desert, is the chosen scenario for some of the Spanish riders of the world championship to start running again on the track. In fact, these days we have seen three Moto3 world champions run on the Andalusian track: Jorge Martin, Albert Arena, Pedro Acosta. Together with them we also find the MotoGP rider Alex Rins.
The four riders lapped on Sunday on Almeria’s 4.2 kilometers (with 12 curves, five to the right and seven to the left and a straight of 970 meters), taking advantage of a sunny day with a mild temperature. Rins rode a Suzuki GSX-R1000R and Martin with the Ducati Panigale V4S, while Acosta rode a Yamaha R1 and Arena rode a Ducati.
The drivers of the world championship posted photos and videos of this first day of training on their respective social channels, the second after shooting last Saturday in Valencia. Then it will continue until Tuesday, while Martin will stay in Almeria a few more days to reach one hundred percent in his second season in the premier class.
One of the photos of the day featured the Pramac rider together with the reigning Moto3 champion, who will make his debut in Moto2 this year. In the photo, taken by Pedro Luis Lamazares, you can see the two Spanish riders in the leaning while facing one of the left corners. It is not yet possible to witness this duel in the race, but no one doubts that this scene will repeat itself in the not too distant future and, who knows, maybe they will fight for the championship by replicating one of those iconic photos that will be exploited in the future.
The official pre-season of MotoGP begins with the shakedown in Sepang from January 31 to February 2, in which test riders and rookies in the premier class can participate: Raul Fernandez, Remy Gardner, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marco Bezzecchi and Darryn Binder. The first two-day official tests will be open to all riders, again in Sepang from 5 to 6 February. The pre-season will end in Mandalika, the new Indonesian track that will host the MotoGP tests from 11 to 13 February.
As for Moto2 and Moto3, pre-season tests will take place in Portimao between 19 and 21 February. The 2022 season will begin with the Qatar Grand Prix, which will be held from 4 to 6 March in Losail.
