The United States Grand Prix proclaimed winner Max Verstappen, authentic protagonist of a competition characterized by a high-voltage finish. With the success of Austin, the Dutchman of Red Bull has thus extended in the championship standings on his rival Lewis Hamilton, finished second and now 12 points away from the summit. Moreover, the number 33 won the eighth victory of the season, preparing to compete in the next GP of Mexico, synonymous with the fifth to last round of the 2021 championship.
At this point, Verstappen has yet to finish ahead of everyone on two more occasions to be able to clinch the first world title of his career. At least, that’s the opinion of Helmut Marko, Head of Red Bull’s Young Drivers Program. According to the Austrian manager, in fact, ten overall victories are required to enter the most coveted roll of honor in international car competitions. A concept reaffirmed also a Sky Deutschland at the end of the Austin race: “As I said – Marko specified – we need ten successes to take the title, then there are two missing. Perhaps we could reach this milestone before the stages in the Middle East, as those circuits have very long straights that could favor Mercedes. The last three races – Russia, Turkey and the United States – were within their reach, yet we will present ourselves in Mexico with 12 points ahead of the forecasts that saw us behind them. Among other things, there will now be two high-altitude stages in Mexico and Brazil, which should be within our reach“.
Regarding the last GP staged in Texas, the Austrian expressed all his satisfaction with the performance of his two drivers, starting with the strategy applied by the team for Verstappen with a double undercut: “Lat the start it was not optimal, but Max could not do anything about it. Stay amazing how he managed to keep and preserve the tires until the end. Perez was also decisive in all this: he was quite ahead and forced Hamilton to return to the pits. Sergio is proving to adapt more and more to the team, and continues to improve ”.
