Fluminense announced today, Friday, that it had signed a two-year contract with veteran Brazilian defender Marcelo, to return to its ranks after leaving Olympiacos, Greece.
The Brazilian club added that the former Real Madrid left-back signed a contract that extends until December 2024, with the possibility of extension until the end of 2025.
Fluminense said on his Twitter account, “Your home will always be Fluminense,” and published a video showing clips from Marcelo’s march.
“It is difficult to express what this moment means to me,” Marcelo, 34, told Fluminense’s website. “I have always dreamed of returning to my origins, to the team that trained me and taught me what I know about football.”
Marcelo began his career at the junior and professional levels with Fluminense and moved from him to Real Madrid in 2007, where he played 546 games during 15 seasons with the Spanish champion.
He left Real Madrid after the end of last season, and he is the most crowned player in the club’s 120-year history, as he won 25 titles, including five Champions League titles.
Olympiacos announced Marcelo’s departure last Saturday, after his contract was terminated after only five months.
