The Japanese cartoon scene gives the final salute to the mangaka Kazuyoshi Toriiwho died of pancreatic cancer on February 9 (but only recently made public) at the hospital in Nagoya. The family has already held the funeral privately.
Born in 1946 in the village of Katanolocated in what has become the city of Okazakiin the prefecture of Aichi, Torii took its first steps in the industry under the wing of Fujio Akatsuka (Osomatsu-kun). He made his debut as a manga artist in 1968 with the one-shot Kuchinashi Inu in the magazine Weekly Shonen Sundaywhile his first series was Toilet Hakasewhich debuted the following year on the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump.
After the 1980s he moved to Aichiwhere he taught at theAichi Shukutoku University to students who had the same aspiration to become mangaka.
