Magaly Solier He is in the hall of a Miraflores hotel where he receives the press. She changes clothes, chats with the makeup artist and accepts suggestions for photos, but she explains that she doesn’t like being photographed. “Because you have to pose, but that’s fine, it’s work,” the artist who defines herself as “actress and peasant” told us yesterday.
Thirteen years after taking the stage at the Berlin Festivaln to collect the Golden Bear, Solier has left Huanta these days to promote Lina de Lima, the first fiction feature film directed by Chilean María Paz González. The actress is the heart of the film co-produced by the Oscar winner for The Mole Agent, Maite Alberdi. “The director is very capable, among women we understand each other faster. She loves Peru”. She says that the choice of her characters has depended on “her strength, her love, her power and, at the same time, its challenges, because you have to win all the festivals”. In the tape he does one of his best works, he sings cumbia, waltz, a huayno in Quechua and shares lyrics and music credits. “He’s one of the funniest characters I’ve ever done. She runs away from her problems… she starts to hallucinate very funny things, it has been a challenge”.
Magaly Solier, who once questioned the pardon of Alberto Fujimori and who was evaluating entering politics, is now focused more on the cinema and prefers to keep the spotlight away from her personal life. “We have to be aware of what is good for us. To what hurts us, we must say: keep talking”. In fact, she is reading the scripts for three films in which he has already agreed to act. The next one will be in Peru. “Before I used to read 7 or 8 scripts at the same time to be able to choose and to choose the order. In Peru he is a protagonist, obviously. It is a French production with Peru”.

Lina does not feel from Lima or Santiago, and is an immigrant who traveled to work for her family. She then decides to think not only about the others. Is there something you identify with?
It is that in life there are many challenges in which we have to put ourselves, as they say, update ourselves at what level of emotion we are. The film invites you to thousands of reasons to stand out if we think of ourselves and if we want to solve a problem that affects us. He’s a really different character, but he has nothing to do with me. I said: how I would have liked to be like her! (laughs), take my dates on Tinder. My parents taught us to have a not so open culture and not that possibility of being able to save many things along the way. But yes, I am proud of Lina, because she does any stupid thing sometimes, but she saves them. She is fun, free. I don’t know in what generation, we, from the mountains, are going to reach that level, right? (smile).
Are women blamed?
Right now if you feel guilty, guilty you will feel. If they make you feel guilty, it is because you allow it, but if you feel good about the decision you are making, welcome to life! (smile). She (‘Lina’) enjoys life, she is not a long-suffering immigrant; she suffers, yes, but in a different way.
What makes you turn down a movie?
When there is a lot of blah, blah, blah. They talk and talk a lot and do nothing in the script.

Do you still lose sleep over winning an Oscar for Peru?
Don’t worry, very soon we will have it (smiles). We have to keep waiting, working, maybe I won’t make it, but the next generation will make it. I’m already past perhaps, but even if I’m walking with a cane at the door of the tomb, I’m going to say: right now I get it.
The Golden Globes presented you as the most international Peruvian actress. Do you feel this way now?
I hadn’t read it. But that I have traveled, that I have gone to festivals world, says my passport.
Do you mind being compared to other actresses?
If they compare me, it’s fine; if I see that it favors me and if I see that it gives me some reason, welcome. If they speak well or badly, as long as they speak. If they talk about me, it means I’m still alive.

Do you think that in Peru they have given you the opportunities that you should?
On Peru I think that just the opportunities will come. In other words, the greatest opportunities, because we are just beginning, that is how I consider myself. But in Europe I am very grateful to all the directors I have worked with, they have been great and always will be and they will live in my past and perhaps a little more in my present. We don’t know how far I’m going to go. In Peruvian cinema, the truth is, before saying no, I review the script, and if they accept that some scenes be changed by my way of thinking and seeing –because I have corrected many scripts–, but sometimes it is convenient to go to Europe because it is less filming time, they pay you a little more (smiles). It is that you have to choose that part, because when there is a family and you support your family, like Lina de Lima, you have to make a good decision.
So, you do identify with Lina.
(Smiles) In that yes, I believe.
What do you have pending?
do my good job, be as always, responsible, see my parents and children again soon and enjoy all the achievements that come with the movies that were filmed.
YOU CAN SEE: What is Magaly Solier’s current situation with her children and why hasn’t she seen them for 7 months?
Are you no longer interested in politics?
They always ask me (to apply), but they already have to know that I am an artist. Fujimori? Well, I don’t know how many years he has already been in prison, and everyone decides why (he releases him) and what he does it for. And well, to continue working, women are independent and those who depend on someone, we must try to make them independent.
