Mario García, the 74-year-old Valencian who has lived in Ukraine for seven years where he has carried out humanitarian work, is the first Spaniard captured by Russian troops in that country, as confirmed by the Government Delegation of the Valencian Community.
Mario left his native Carlet after the Russian invasion of the Crimean peninsula in 2014, and joined the Ukrainian army. In recent years he has been carrying out humanitarian work and supplying food and medicine.
After the attack by the Russian army on Ukraine last February, Mario continued with his work supplying the soldiers at the front.
