The French president, current president of the EU, conveys his determination to support the eastern neighbors of the European Union “against all attempts at tensions and destabilization”
French President Emmanuel Macron warned today that the war in Ukraine “will last and the set of crises that will be behind it will have lasting consequences”, for which he considered that “we must prepare”. Macron explained that the French government is preparing “a resilience plan” to deal with this crisis and its economic consequences.
“War returns to Europe,” said the president during the inauguration in Paris of the Agriculture Show, an unavoidable event on the French political calendar and even more so in an election year. “This war has been unilaterally chosen by President (Russian Vladimir) Putin, with a tragic humanitarian situation, a people that resists and a Europe that is there, next to the Ukrainian people,” he explained.
“What we are experiencing will have consequences for the agricultural sector” and for exports from the wine, cereal and livestock feed sectors, warned Macron, who has called a meeting of the Defense and Security Council this afternoon to analyze the war in Ukraine.
On the other hand, the French president spoke today by telephone with the president of Georgia, Salomé Zourabichvili; and with her counterpart from Moldova, Maia Sandu. Together they discussed the evolution of the situation in Ukraine and the responses of the international community to the Russian aggression.
The head of state conveyed his determination to support the eastern neighbors of the European Union “against all attempts at tension and destabilization.” “We are together with Moldova and Georgia to defend their sovereignty and their security,” Macron said, according to a statement from the Elysee Palace.
Macron, very busy with the Ukrainian crisis and the rotating French presidency of the European Union, has not yet officially announced his candidacy for the presidential elections in April, but everyone hopes that he will do so soon, since March 4 ends the deadline for announcing that he is running for re-election.
