The judge asked for clarification on the position of the parties but the timing of the decision is not known
It is the ‘Petrocelli case’ that agitates the pentastellated groups. The chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Commission has voted no to the resolution that gives the mandate to the government to sell war material to Ukraine for the self-defense of the country attacked by Russia. Eleven of them did not vote in the Senate (sects of the League) but from the majority there are those, above all Italy alivecalled for Petrocelli’s resignation from the leadership of the Commission.
But in the 5-star Movement there is also another issue that creates fibrillation and concern in the top management. The judge of the civil court of Naples he reserved the right to decide on the request for revocation of the ordinance which on 7 February last suspended the new Statute of the 5 Star Movement and the subsequent election of Giuseppe Conte as president. The judge at the hearing has asked for clarification on the position of the parties but the timing of the decision is not known. And there was no discussion of territorial jurisdiction, another theme proposed by the defense of the Movement. The Movement has convened a new assembly for 10 and 11 March next to revise the amendments to the Statute and be in good standing to access the 2 per thousand in 2023. With the decision to still exclude those registered for less than six months, on the basis of a regulation of 2018. But several M5s parliamentarians underline the risk that the leadership of Conte remains frozenagain, beyond the possibility of new appeals.
Grillo after a meeting with Conte and the lawyers had given the green light the appeal to the Court of Naples to request the revocation of the suspension. But – according to what some pentastellate parliamentary sources report – he would have raised doubts about the path chosen by the former Prime Minister to convene an assembly to review the amendments to the Statute. The loyalists of the Apulian jurist are convinced that the Court of Naples will ‘lock’ the 5-star Movement.
But times are tight, so much so that there are those in the Movement who believe that the meeting of 10 and 11 March could be a own goal. The timing of the meeting was dictated precisely by the need to be able to access the 2 per thousand. “But in this way – observes a senator – the risk is that not only Conte will crash but also the Movement”. At the moment Conte’s line does not change. But within the parliamentary groups the wing of those who would prefer to follow the path hypothesized at first by Grillo grows. That is the composition of a guarantee committee in order to then be able to create a directory. As regards the ‘Petrocelli case’, many senators – including the group leader in the Senate Castellone – defend the colleague; others, on the other hand, argue that it should take a step back. Attacking the president of the Foreign Commission are, among others, the dem Marcucci and the senators of Italy in the Center, Quagliariello and Romani. But there are also doubts about the government’s address in the League, in the Democratic Party and in Leu.
