The Vulcan rocket carrying the Peregrine lunar lander took off from Cape Canaveral in Florida. This is the first commercial robotic lunar lander launched from Space Launch Complex-41. The United States is therefore returning to aim for the Moon after more than half a century and the Vulcan will be the first American spacecraft to land on the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972. Its arrival on lunar soil is scheduled for February.
“Everything seems fine,” says the mission control manager, adding that hydraulic and chamber pressure are good on both engines. This is the first private vehicle that will land on our satellite and is part of the commercial program promoted by NASA.
