President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will return to Rio Grande do Sul this Sunday (5) to monitor the federal government’s work in providing humanitarian assistance to those affected by heavy rains in the state. The information was confirmed by the chief minister of the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom/PR), Paulo Pimentaon your profile on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Also on social media, Lula once again stated that there will be no lack of federal resources for Rio Grande do Sul, which is facing what authorities have been calling worst climate disaster in state history.

“The federal government is in permanent dialogue with the government of Rio Grande do Sul and city halls to support the region in whatever is necessary. We will spare no efforts to help municipalities suffering from the rains and save lives”, wrote Lula.
This Saturday afternoon, Lula will preside over a virtual meeting of the situation room created by him on Thursday (2). At Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the Presidency of the Republic, Lula and ministers debate, via videoconference, emergency solutions for the state. Some of the ministers are already in Porto Alegre where a crisis office will be installed which will act as a basis for streamlining communication between the federal government and affected municipalities.
Lula’s return
This Sunday, the president is expected to travel accompanied by nine ministers, including Finance Minister Fernando Haddad; Health, Nísia Trindade, and Education, Camilo Santana. Disembarkation is scheduled for 10:30 am in the state.
President Lula will meet with the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, mayors of the affected municipalities and local authorities, with the aim of reinforcing the joint work that is being done.
“There will be no lack of willingness, budget and work capacity, so that we can rebuild everything that is being destroyed in Rio Grande do Sul. But, mainly, so that we can save lives and provide all the necessary support, in this dramatic moment that Rio Grande needs, it can be offered by the Federal Government”, announced the minister of Secom/PR.
The team will join the federal authorities in the state: ministers Paulo Pimenta; of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, the president of the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai), Joenia Wapichana; the president of the National Supply Company (Conab/Mapa), Edegar Pretto; and the national secretary of National Assistance, of the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger, André Quintão,
Second visit
In less than a week, this will be President Lula’s second visit to the state. On Thursday (2), President Lula and ministers disembarked in the city of Santa Maria to assess the situation in the face of storms.
On the occasion, he guaranteed that there would be no shortage of resources from the federal government in helping the population of Rio Grande do Sul and in rebuilding municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul hit by storms and floods since the beginning of the week.
After the visit, President Lula determined the creation of a situation room to centralize and coordinate federal actions to help the state’s population and monitor storms in Rio Grande do Sul.
