Stock market|The index reached that threshold for the first time already on Thursday.
New On the York Stock Exchange, the industrial index Dow Jones closed above 40,000 points for the first time on Friday. The index reached that threshold for the first time already on Thursday, but at the end of the day it still fell below it.
The industrial index was up 0.3 percent at the end of trading, while the broader S&P 500 was up 0.1 percent. The technology-focused Nasdaq, on the other hand, was down 0.1 percent.
All three of Wall Street’s main indexes ended the week higher than they started it.
The stock market rise has been fueled by hope that the central bank, the Fed, would start lowering interest rates earlier than previously estimated. Hopes for a decrease in June have already been forgotten, but the market is now looking towards September.
Since the beginning of this month, the S&P 500 has risen 5.3 percent.
