President stated that all government agendas will be approved and that impasse in the Legislature is a “normal situation” in politics
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) minimized the existence of friction between the government and Congress and stated this Tuesday (April 23, 2024) that the situation in political articulation is “very peaceful”. However, he confirmed that he had a conversation with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
At a breakfast with journalists, the PT member stated that all government agendas will be approved, even with friction. According to him, the impasse in the Legislature is a “normal situation” of politics.
“I am convinced that we are in a very calm situation in our relationship with the National Congress. I invite you to pay attention to what will happen in the things we have to vote on from now on. All things will be approved”declared Lula.
On April 11, the president of the Chamber said that the head of the Institutional Relations Secretariat was “incompetent” and called him “personal disaffection”. The statements were given to journalists at an agro-industrial fair in the city of Londrina, in the north of Paraná. Lula was quick to come to Padilha's defense and said he would continue in the ministry “just out of stubbornness”.
On Monday, Planalto ordered the blocking of the transfer of committee amendments to deputies and senators. The measure is used as a form of negotiation with congressmen over the presidential veto of R$5.6 billion over the amendments.
