According to the president, the measure will serve to “unlock” tourism, business and academic exchange; the announcement was made in Colombia
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced this Wednesday (April 17, 2024) that there will be a direct flight between Brasília (Brazil) and Bogotá (Colombia). The PT member made the statement during the closing of the Business Forum organized by Apex Brazil with the group ProColombia. The event was held in the Colombian capital.
“The direct flight between our capitals announced today will expand options, connections and distribution to unlock tourism, business and student academic exchange”he declared.
Despite the announcement, Lula's trip to Colombia was the reason for the government to once again postpone the official launch of the Voa Brasil cheap air ticket program, previously scheduled for this Wednesday (April 17).
Voa Brasil has the premise of selling airline tickets for R$200. It was announced in March 2023 by the former head of Ports and Airports, the minister Márcio França, who now heads the Ministry of Entrepreneurship. It was scheduled to be released in January 2024, which did not materialize.
LULA’S TRIP TO COLOMBIA
The president traveled to the capital Bogotá on Tuesday (April 16) at Petro's invitation. According to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Itamaraty, the invitation took place at the end of May 2023, when the Colombian president came to Brazil. The leader of the neighboring country called the PT member to participate in the opening of the 36th edition of Filbo (Bogotá International Book Fair), which will have Brazil as the honored country.
Earlier, Lula met with Petro at Casa de Nariño, the official residence of the Colombian Presidency. On that occasion, ministers of state from both countries signed bilateral agreements.
