Animal feed producers have been unable to access the port of Cartagena to collect bulk since Monday
More than 14,000 tons of raw materials a day are running out of distribution by some 12,000 livestock farms, putting thousands of animals at risk of death that have been without supply since Monday. This is how Apicose denounces it, the employers’ association of feed producers in the Region, and the regional livestock sector, who criticize the lack of dialogue and action by the Government Delegation to reach a solution.
Apicose convened a crisis committee yesterday afternoon, after which the president of the association, Ginés Rubio, assured that “we respect the transport strike and we share the reasons, since we also have trucks, but we need the services to be respected.” minimum, because the animals have not eaten since Monday. The sector denounces that it is a problem not only in the Region but also in neighboring provinces such as Almería and Alicante, even in more distant points such as Toledo or Madrid.
Rubio demanded that the access of the trucks to collect feed from the bulk port in Cartagena be protected, since, although they pass the control of the Civil Guard, the same does not happen with the informative pickets.
The sector calculates that only in the Region between 10 and 12 million kilos of feed are produced daily that are not reaching the farms. According to the businessmen, the lack of supply could cause the animals to become ill and, in extreme cases, to eat each other. Entrepreneurs live these circumstances with great concern given the extreme gravity that the situation is causing in livestock farms.
The mobilizations continue
On the other hand, almost fifty trucks and trailers of different tonnages again collapsed traffic entering the city of Murcia early yesterday morning and paralyzed traffic on the main roads. The collective protests against the conditions in the sector, aggravated by the invasion of Ukraine and the rise in fuel prices. In addition, they warn, “we still have no news from the Administration”, they say they do not recognize the national transport committee as an interlocutor and warn that “the strike continues and will continue as long as they do not meet with us and we reach the relevant agreements.”
From Froet, which supports the demands but not the strike, they insist that, “in the exceptional situation, the Government must arbitrate exceptional measures” that has already been demanded and for which an official response is awaited.
