The former head of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Zolotukhinsky District of the Kursk Region, 39-year-old Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Borzenkov will go on trial in the case of espionage in favor of Ukraine. About it informs Kommersant.
According to the newspaper, the case of Borzenkov, who was detained by operatives of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia, will be considered by the Kursk Regional Court. The lieutenant colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is accused under Article 275 (“Treason”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, he faces up to 20 years in prison. A hearing on the case is scheduled for November 15th.
The fact that the FSB accused Lieutenant Colonel Borzenkov of high treason was reported on July 14, 2020. According to media reports, the policeman could transfer to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) information about the movement of military personnel and military special equipment on the territory of the region. In particular, Kiev showed interest in the movement of the Buk air defense system, which is in service with the 53rd anti-aircraft missile brigade stationed in the Kursk region.
Borzenkov’s detention by FSB officers became known on June 22. Moscow’s Lefortovo court arrested the suspect for two months until August 18.
Dmitry Borzenkov was born in Kursk. He came to serve in the police in 1998. In 2003, Borzenkov graduated from the Oryol Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He was awarded medals “For Distinction in Service” of three degrees, “For Valor in Service”. As the newspaper notes, Borzenkov was repeatedly encouraged by the leadership, he had no disciplinary penalties.
