Charles Leclerc is the first poleman of the history of the Miami Grand Prix. A significant satisfaction for the Monegasque driver who, after the disappointment of Imola, immediately found the main road putting everyone behind him. Very important is the presence at his side of Carlos Sainz, mocked by 190 thousandths: both the Reds will therefore be in the front row, also benefiting from a small gift from Max Verstappen in the last lap of Q3 which did not lead him to close his time .
“Overall I had everything under control in qualifying, but on the final lap I missed the first three corners – admitted Leclerc – Throughout the weekend, and also in qualifying, I didn’t have the best feeling with the setup I put in the car and I struggled in that stretch. I lost a lot of respect to Carlos and others, but then I pushed hard and everything went well for the rest of the lap. We have to work and understand these first three corners, but I am confident that in the race it will go better ”.
On the pace, Ferrari seems to be solid once again, but there Red Bull is on paper a very difficult rival to beat despite Verstappen’s problems during FP2: “Our pace is good. We don’t have Max’s reference but only Checo’s and, compared to him, we were in pretty good shape. However, we must not forget about Verstappen: in the long run it will be even closer. Once again they are very strong on the straights. Will be difficult. The asphalt is different, one more unknown, and it will be physically tough. The temperature is very high, it is really hot in the passenger compartment “.
Finally one last comment on Sainz: “Nice to see him with me in the front row. We hope to be able to hold these positions until the checkered flag. With a good start, if we stay first and second it will be a positive thing for the rest of the race ”.
