Imola’s anger is already forgotten. Ferrari closes on Saturday in Miami as best it was possible to do: first and second on the grid, with Charles Leclerc in front of Carlos Sainz. Only third the great rival, Max Verstappen, victim of a driving error in his latest attempt. An all-red front row was not seen since the 2019 Mexican GP, back then with Leclerc and Vettel, and it is the best way to leave behind the empty passage of the Santerno, in front of the friendly public. Now it will be up to confirm this result in the race, but the first part of the work was done in the best possible way.
The best testimony of how important this qualification was for the whole Ferrari environment can be found in the long exchange of words that took place at the end of the lap that gave pole to Leclerc between the Monegasque himself, his track engineer and also the team principal. Ferrari Mattia Binotto, who wanted to open his microphone to congratulate the world leader in Italian directly. A party that also highlighted Leclerc’s satisfaction in knowing that his box-mate Carlos Sainz will start next to him tomorrow, perhaps at the definitive end of a difficult period.
Ferrari: “Mode slow”
Ferrari: “The other cars are finishing the lap”.
Leclerc: “How are we doing?”.
Ferrari: “I think we’re in good shape. Verstappen did not complete the lap ”.
Binotto: “Looks good!”.
Ferrari: “So, P1, P1”.
Leclerc: “Let’s go! Come on! The ride wasn’t great but it was enough so I can’t complain. Thanks guys, great car ”.
Ferrari: “Good job”.
Binotto: “A magic Charles, bravo”. [In italiano]
Leclerc: “What did you say Mattia?”. [In italiano]
Binotto: “It was magic, bravo”. [In italiano]
Leclerc: “Thanks. Let’s try to do it again tomorrow “. [In italiano]
Leclerc: “I saw it’s a 1-2. I’m happy for Carlos, okay ”.
