Lebanese officials will meet on Monday to formulate an official response to the proposal sent by the American mediator, Amos Hochstein, regarding the demarcation of the maritime border with Israel, in preparation for reaching a final agreement that allows the two conflicting countries to invest their oil resources.
The meeting comes two days after the US ambassador to Beirut, Dorothy Shea, handed over to Presidents Michel Aoun, Parliament Nabih Berri and the government-designate Najib Mikati, “the US proposal for a final agreement on the maritime border line,” according to what the US embassy tweeted on Saturday.
The technical committee in charge of following up the file, and it includes representatives from several parties, including the army, will hold a meeting at one in the afternoon (ten GMT) at the presidential palace.
Then Aoun will receive Berri and Mikati at 3:00 pm (12:00 GMT) to discuss “the official response to the offer made” by Hochstein, according to the official National News Agency in Lebanon.
