If in September he gave Navantia a little slap on the wrist for delays and further delays in the delivery of the S-81 submarine, this Friday everything was congratulatory. The acting Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, carried out the final inspection of the new ‘Isaac Peral’ at the Cartagena shipyard, which on the 30th will be delivered to the Navy by its builder, in a ceremony that will take place at the docks of Navantia and which is expected to be attended by a representative of the House of HM the King.
The minister, accompanied by the acting Secretary of State for Defense, Amparo Valcarce, learned the latest details of the development of the prototype and the progress in the manufacturing works of the other three units of the S-80 Program during the course of a meeting with directors of the public shipyard and senior officers of the Navy.
In attendance were the president of the company, Ricardo Domínguez, the general director of Armament and Material, Admiral Aniceto Rosique, the director of the shipyard, Germán Romero, and the chief admiral of the Arsenal, Vice Admiral Pedro Luis de la Puente, among others. Subsequently, he moved to the Armament Dock to enter the ship and greet all the members of the S-81 crew, led by its commander, Manuel Corral Iranzo. The test commander, Juan Manuel Torrijos Colado, was also there.
«I want to congratulate all the Navantia workers who have made this important effort, because behind the submarine there are many hours of work, a lot of technology and a lot of design. I have already conveyed to the commander and crew that they are a source of pride. Believe me, it has been very emotional to go down and be with them,” said Robles, who avoided making statements on other topics of interest. He did confirm that the acting Government is prepared to carry out, when the time comes, the repatriation of Spaniards in Gaza.
