The few doubts about the car that the newly elected President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella would use for the inauguration ceremony were immediately dispelled. It was once again the historic turn Lancia Flaminia Presidential, which since 1961 has been the official car of the President of the Italian Republic and which over the years has been used both for the installation of the last ten Presidents, including two with double mandates, and for the celebrations of 2 June for the Republic Day. Sixty years of history in which this car has therefore become ambassador of the Italian spirit in the world.
We are talking about an extremely prestigious car, which in institutional guise has also accompanied visits by politicians or sovereigns, such as Queen Elizabeth II of England or John Fitzgerald Kennedy. It is a long-wheelbase convertible, which historically was built four specimens, baptized with proper names of thoroughbred horses of the Quirinale stables such as Belfiore, Belmonte, Belvedere and Belsito: painted in the characteristic midnight blue, all four have saddlery in Connolly black leather, intercom to communicate with the driver, five rear seats with large sofa and two folding seats. On the occasion of the recent re-election of Sergio Mattarella, along the settlement route which started from Montecitorio with the oath in front of the assembled Chambers, the Lancia Flaminia Presidential passed through Piazza Venezia, and then continued with a tribute to the Monument of the Unknown Soldier and then ended at the Quirinal residence.
