Lamborghini continues to celebrate its iconic V12, ever closer to an exit from the scene as the car manufacturer del Toro is preparing to enter the heart of the hybridization process of the range. The transition of the V12 from a simple engine to a legend took place in 1966, when turned transversely and mounted in the central rear position, it was mounted on the P400 Miura: much of the success achieved by the sports car in the following years is to be attributed precisely to the engine that hid under the bonnet, the 12-cylinder 60 ° V, 4 liters, with 4 Weber 40 IDL 3L carburettors, capable of delivering a maximum power between the various versions “P400 – P400S – P400SV” of 350, 370 and 385 HP respectively.
And the numbers undoubtedly testify to the unprecedented commercial success obtained from a Lamborghini car, so extraordinary that from the expected 50 units in 3 years, a total production of 763 cars was reached in seven years, between 1966 and 1973. The Miura was created in its technical part by the very young Giampaolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzani, the engineers at the time responsible for the development and production of Automobili Lamborghini, and satisfied a very specific request from Ferruccio Lamborghini: to create a car even more shocking than the 350 GT, which left everyone breathless, and which was equipped with the much vaunted V12. That said, the Miura came to light as the sports car with sufficient power levels at the time to make it the fastest production car in the world.
As Lamborghini itself recalls, there have been many personality who in history have had a Miura: from Little Tony and Rod Stewart, who owned more than one, to Eddie Van Hallen who kept his for over 30 years, passing through Jay Kay of Jamiroquai who still owns it today. And without forgetting the actor Peter Sellers, the model Twiggy, the singers Johnny Hallyday, Elton John, the opera singer Grace Bumbry, the jazzman Miles Davis, the pilot Jean-Pierre Beltoise and even the Shah of Persia, owner of various Miuras, among which one of only 4 SVJs produced. In short, an iconic car that has made the V12 the key to its success even among the high profiles of the show and beyond.
