Chaotic start
It’s been two weeks since the team Arrow McLaren he had released David Malukas, signed by Dale Coyne Racing but never took to the track due to a broken wrist suffered in February. Since then the Woking house had taken action by first announcing Callum Ilott as his replacement, and then promoting Theo Pourchaire in the last two races held in Long Beach and Alabama.
The definitive confirmation
Now, on the eve of the fourth round of the season on the Indianapolis road circuit, the Frenchman was reconfirmed not only for this event, but also for the rest of the season. The official announcement came from a press release from McLaren, which however specified that the reigning Formula 2 champion will not take part in the Indianapolis 500. In the next few days the team will announce who will be the driver to occupy the seat of car #6: “We are thrilled to continue working with Théo – declared the Team Principal Gavin Ward – He has proven himself to be a quick learner, and we believe his mindset and learning abilities will benefit his development as he becomes more comfortable racing in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Now it’s about continuing to grow and turning these learnings into results with the No. 6 team.”
His career
French F4 Junior Champion in 2018, the 20-year-old established himself in German F4 the following year, gaining promotion to Sauber Junior Team in the same season. Having become the third driver of the then Alfa Romeo in F1, with three appearances in PL1 between 2022 and 2023, Pourchaire reached the highest point of his career last year, becoming F2 champion. The current season began in Super Formula, but after just one race he moved to the United States after Malukas’ aforementioned injury: “The NTT INDYCAR SERIES offers some of the best racing in motorsports, and I can now say that with experience – he declared after confirmation – I’m excited to take on this challenge with Arrow McLaren for the remainder of the season. It’s a special opportunity and I’m committed to learning and improving every time we hit the track. I enjoyed my first two races with the team and I know we have great potential ahead of us. Of course, I would like to thank Zak, Gavin and Tony, as well as the Sauber F1 Team, for making this possible.”
