Labor market The Paper Association will continue the strike at UPM’s mills until April, unless an agreement is reached before then

The Paper Association’s Board of Directors “paid special attention to UPM’s arrogance towards its own employees”.

Paper Union said on Thursday that it will continue the strike, which began at the turn of the year, at UPM ‘s mills until the beginning of April.

“As no agreement has been reached between the Paper Association and UPM, the Paper Association will continue the strike for three weeks,” the association said after the council and board meetings.

According to the press release, “the board“ paid special attention to UPM’s arrogance towards its own employees ”.

According to the press release, the members of the council were wondering whether UPM understands that the company’s employees are on strike, not the Paper Association’s Hakaniemi office.

“There were also concerns about the local potential for an agreement once the agreement was finally reached.”

UPM: n according to a Thursday release, “close talks continue”.

“The parties now know each other’s goals, so negotiators have the opportunity to go through things and find business-specific contractual solutions,” UPM’s Vice President, Labor Market Jyrki Hollmén estimates.

“We hope that the process will move forward and be willing to compromise so that we can find solutions that satisfy all parties and get the factories up and running. The businesses make every effort to promote an open dialogue between the parties, ”Hollmén says in a press release.

During the strike, UPM will, where possible, strive to meet customer demand from its mills outside Finland.

In progress The current strike applies to all work covered by the expired paper industry collective agreement, except for work that, according to the decision of the Helsinki District Court of 21 January, could endanger life, health or the environment.

The delimitation applies to the locations in Kaukas, Kymi, Pietarsaari, Rauma, Jämsänkoski and Tervasaari.

The national conciliator invited the parties to conciliation from 14 February, after which the parties have clarified their proposals.

The next meeting with the mediator is on Friday.

To the top it was argued whether negotiations would be business-specific, as UPM would like, or company-wide.

The Paper Association would enter into company-wide agreements with UPM, as in other large forest companies in Stora Enso and Metsä Group. In the end, the union agreed to at least negotiations and conciliations on a business-by-business basis.

The main controversy is now about UPM seeking to extend employees’ working hours without compensation.
